Education
The Heart
Institute of the Caribbean has a faculty of cardiovascular
specialists that are accomplished and internationally respected.
Part of the HIC mission is to develop healthcare infrastructure
in the Caribbean and build internal capacity that will be on par
with the best international standards.
To this end, we offer training to
Caribbean physicians in Cardiovascular Care to meet acceptable
international standards. We are the only facility in the region
with the right complement of infrastructure, equipment and staff
to provide such training in cardiovascular diagnosis and
treatment.
HIC Journal Club
If you are a
physician, you should become a member of our Journal Club.
HIC’s Journal Club facilitates a forum of interaction among
physicians enabling you to share information and benefit from
each others experiences while enhancing your knowledge in areas
of cardiovascular disease and cardiac risk factor management.
In addition to sharing information and enhancing your
knowledge, you will also be able to review your patient reports
(including ECG’s) with our cardiologists as well as earn CME
credits for the year.
The Journal
club meets on Thursdays at 6p.m. in the board room at the Heart
Institute of the Caribbean. The schedule for these meetings are
outlined below.

HIC Innovators Project
As part of our
education initiative the Heart Institute of The Caribbean
sponsors the visit of highly respected specialists in the
field of Cardiovascular Medicine from around the world to
Jamaica. These week long visits normally include public
lectures, where the visiting specialists share their wealth
of experience as well as information on emerging trends in
the field of Cardiovascular Medicine with local medical
practitioners, medical students and the public in general.
These visits
also facilitate consultations with local physicians on
unusual or uncommon cases.
